Discussion focused on the increase of head injuries in Hockey and the possibility of using MIPS to reduce the risk for concussions and more dramatic brain injuries.
MIPS launches blog
2011-03-29 Just recently we returned from the SIA and ISPO snow trade shows where we had the opportunity to meet and talk to some of the industries leading representatives. From a MIPS perspective we are always interested in listening in on the current trends and opinions on safety in general and helmet safety specifically. What we heard at the SIA trade show made us very encouraged, so we decided to bring a journalist and a cameraman to ISPO to see if we could capture the same and more on film.
So we did, and now we have quite an extensive and interesting film material displaying the snow industries thoughts on our favorite topic – safety.
We plan to start sharing this film material with you and others friends within the global helmet industry.
To do that we will seize the opportunity to launch MIPS presence in social media, our Blog; http://blog.mipshelmet.com , our Facebook page; http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/MIPShelmet and finally our YouTube page: http://www.youtube.com/user/GetMIPS
Our view is that the industry could benefit from a more intense dialogue on helmet development, specifically regarding safety. If our Blog or Facebook page could accommodate for a small step in a direction where we all share any and all type of safety topics on helmets, we believe that could possibly drive development toward even safer helmets in the future.
So to follow on and to participate with your experience and thoughts on the most important topic of the industry – safety – click on the link to our blog and view the first of four videos. Feel free to join in and comment. We very much look forward to your feedback.

You are crazy if you visit us at SIA or ISPO.
2011-01-27 Some people like doing crazy things. And that's the way we want to keep it.
By absorbing the damaging rotational violence from an angled fall, MIPS Protection System makes great helmets even more protecting.
Something that both RED and POC have discovered.
Welcome mad men and lunatics!

MIPS signs agreement with world snowboarding leader Burton.
2011-01-17 MIPS protection system to offer enhanced protective technology in Burton's RED snow helmets.
MIPS, a company based in Sweden, has signed a technology license and supply agreement with the world's leading snowboard company, Burton Snowboards. Burton's R.E.D. helmets will use the MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) protection system in select future product launches. MIPS' patented technology mimics and reinforces the brain's own protection thereby reducing the risk of brain damage, setting a new standard in helmet safety.
Helmets on the market today are based on the same technology that was developed during the 70's. They provide adequate protection but they don't protect against brain damage caused by an angled impact to the head. The MIPS protection system reduces the risk of brain damage by mimicking the brain's own protection system, using a unique sliding low-friction layer between the head and the helmet liner. This means the new R.E.D. helmets can absorb more energy created by an angled impact to the head (which is how most head injuries occur). "This is a major breakthrough and we are delighted that R.E.D. has selected the MIPS protection system", says Niklas Steenberg, CEO of MIPS AB. Spacer Reducing the effect of rotational force is a key objective for leading helmet brands, including R.E.D. R.E.D. has made a strategic decision to integrate MIPS in the 2012 "HI FI" helmet model as well as possible future helmet offerings. R.E.D. will initially implement the MIPS protection system in the RED HI-FI, a helmet that was used by six out of seven snowboard medal winners at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver and will be available in shops worldwide beginning in August 2011.
Spacer"Test results have shown us that the MIPS protection system can reduce the likelihood of serious head injury and that was why we chose to partner with MIPS" says Jeff Gilberti, Vice President for R.E.D. Protection and ANON Optics. "At Burton we are all about helping riders progress and the addition of MIPS to our team driven HiFi helmets gives them added confidence to do just that."
SpacerBy designing technology addressing how accidents actually occur, these new standards will help to minimize the risk involved with angled impact to the head.

Meet MIPS at Intermot 2010
2010-10-04 Are you….
… looking at developing the next generation of safety helmets?
… looking for the latest helmet technology to step up your competition?
We will be visiting Intermot to present our business case of how to achieve these goals, and at the same time substantially reduces rotational violence, one of the most common causes to sever head injuries.
See you at Intermot
